Billy Bang

Billy Bang was a jazz violinist who pursued his music career after his stint serving in the Vietnam War. He could cut loose, but I like his ballads best. The melodies and improvs tended to have a beautiful plaintive feel; his melodic sense seemed to me akin to Wayne Shorter’s, melancholy and beautiful in the quietest moments. I can’t always find the best example, but this song is a pretty sweet example of his gorgeous arrangement style. The safest bet of the three tonight if you like a melody. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAPRugcZFtY&feature=related
