NCAA Fantasy Bracket

My friend Jake said he would be interested in seeing what my brackets would look like. I don’t want to deal with the mess of undeserving teams that only get in because they win some conference tournament where the combined records of the teams in their league are 90-180 because they can’t beat any opponent outside of the sad Sallys in their conference, but I will go halfway. Here are my seeds of the top 12 teams that I think deserve to be in the tournament, by region. A couple of quick observations; the ACC, the “best conference in the country” according to every other idiot broadcaster on the air, gets 3 teams in, and Clemson by the skin of their teeth, and will lose in the first round. Also, the west sucks; the PAC 10 is about to fade away altogether. Because of this dearth of even decent teams in the West, the West brackets picks up a lot of teams from the eastern side of the country. Harvard and Princeton are the only 2 Ivy League teams, and they really are inseparable peas in a pod, so it looks weird to have them seeded together in the same bracket; on the other hand, because they are 11 and 12 seeds, they could only possibly meet in the regional finals, which is about as likely as my brackets being considered in the real world.

Here’s my seeds:

WEST
1) San Diego State
2) Pittsburgh
3) Texas
4) Purdue
5) Utah St
6) Cincinnati
7) Temple
8) Memphis
9) Washington
10) Cleveland St
11) Georgia
12) Marquette

MIDWEST
1) Kansas
2) Brigham Young
3) Notre Dame
4) Kentucky
5) Arizona
6) Wisconsin
7) St John’s
8) Richmond
9) Missouri
10) Texas El-Paso
11) Butler
12) Clemson

SOUTH EAST
1) Duke
2) Connecticut
3) Florida
4) Louisville
5) George Mason
6) UNLV
7) Kansas St
8) West Virginia
9) Belmont
10) UCLA
11) Tennessee
12) Penn St

EAST
1) Ohio St
2) North Carolina
3) Syracuse
4) Old Dominion
5) Georgetown
6) Xavier
7) Vanderbilt
8) Texas A&M
9) Villanova
10) UAB
11) Princeton
12) Harvard

Of course, the way the selection committee has gone out of their way over the years to give Duke a cake walk to the finals, I really expect the SOUTH EAST bracket to look like this;

1) Duke
2) Boston College
3) Michigan St
4) Dayton
5) Long Island
6) Oakland
7) Oklahoma St
8) Colorado St
9) Alabama
10) Coastal Carolina
11) Marshall
12) New Mexico

but only because they can’t get away with this

1) Duke
2) Arkansas-Pine Bluff
3) Central Arkansas
4) Alcorn St
5) Jacksonville St
6) Toledo
7) Georgia Southern
8) Chicago St
9) Texas-Pan American
10) Houston Baptist
11) Southern
12) Centenary
