Bruno Kirby

Yet another memorial post; Kirby’s been gone nearly three years, but his films kept showing up in theaters through 2007, which is what makes him eligible to appear on the “Working Actors” list. He was generally the mostly likable wise-guy sidekick, generally remembered for his comic works, but also appearing in dramas from time to time. Many pictures of him from his last few months make him a scary ringer for libertarian nutball talk-show lunatic Alex Jones.

David Krumholtz

David Krumholtz

You’re an actor. You’ve recently passed 30. Your first prominent role was as an obnoxious elf-child. The type of role that could easily follow you around into your adulthood, like people who throw their hands up to their face and hang their mouths open when they seeĀ  Macauley Culkin pass by at UCB Jr shows. And then you were contractually obligated to repeat the role. Now you’re in a TV show that is not particularly-well thought of, but just popular enough to get renewed over and over. Each renewal must feel like one more tiny nail in your coffin.

But look on the bright side. You’ve established your talent in both comic and dramatic settings. That show will eventually pass, and you will collect decent checks from that long-lived production forever. And your small parts/cameos in multiple hip comedies indicate that your name is in the books of people that count. You’re not watching your time pass by, you’re positioning yourself for a long satisfying career. You may not get the Brad Pitt parts, but you’re at least M. Emmet Walsh, who is beloved and worked enough to feed the family. Plus, you’re only 31, and already on this esteemed list. Buck up, kid, the future’s wide open.
